Fountain Square Dedication Ceremony

A dedication ceremony for the newly renovated Fountain Square in Somerset, Kentucky, was held October 4, 2013. Designed by M2D Design Group and Bell Engineering, the renovation provided a complete overhaul of the existing plaza creating a signature landmark and gathering place in downtown Somerset. The renovations included a new fountain that propels water 15 feet into the air, new landscaping and planters, a variety of steps and benches providing seating, and improved pedestrian access. Memorial bricks and commemorative plaques were also installed and the bronze statue of Sen. John Sherman Cooper was polished and moved to the north end of the square. Last renovated in 1963, the Fountain Square Beautification Project was made possible through an $800,000 Transportation Enhancement Grant and a $200,000 in-kind contribution from the Pulaski County Government.
