RRWA Receives 2012 Spirit of Kentucky Award

The Red River Wastewater Authority (RRWA) was presented the 2012 Spirit of Kentucky Award by Governor Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government (DLG) Commissioner Tony Wilder for the Red River Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility at the 37th Annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference held Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Spirit of Kentucky Award is given annually to sponsors of a public project that demonstrates cost effective coordination of government resources among multiple government groups. Representatives of the City of Stanton, the City of Clay City, and Powell County came together to form the RRWA to plan for the future needs of their region rather than their individual needs.

Bell Engineering worked with the RRWA and determined that a regional facility would be the most effective and efficient way to provide reliable and affordable sewage collection and treatment. Bell’s assistance, along with the cooperation of the local city and county governments, led to 62.5% grant funding for the project including KIA, CDBG, USDA RD, EDA, ARC and HUD Disaster Recovery. The project is currently under construction.
